LAC-Center is a research, study and business initiative founded by Dr. Lourdes Daza Aramayo and the Anglo-American University, based in Prague, Czech Republic. The Center carries out scientific and research activities focused on the economic and social sectors of Latin America and the Caribbean region, as well as on the relations between these areas and the European Union. It also promotes the internationalization of education, training, consulting and publishing.


Objectives
Lourdes Gabriela Daza Aramayo, Ph.D.
Founder and Director of the Latin America and the Caribbean Studies and Business Center (LAC-Center), Daza Aramayo holds a Ph.D. in Economic Policy, with a dissertation focused on relations between Latin America and the European Union. She earned her degree as an Engineer in Political Economy with a specialization in socioeconomic data analysis from the University of Economics and Business in Prague, where she later served as a professor in the Faculties of Economics and International Relations.
Her research areas include EU-Latin America and Caribbean relations, international trade, the intersection of trade and gender, economic policy, and economic analysis. Additionally, she is a member of the Bi-regional Academic Council within the Permanent Academic Forum Latin America and the Caribbean-European Union. Previously, she served as Executive Director of the Latin American Studies Center at the University of Economics in Prague (2008-2018), where she was also a professor in the Department of Economics and International Trade.

The Academic Council is tasked with promoting the development of LAC-Center’s academic and research activities. Its work includes collaboration with local, regional, national, and European institutions to foster research, create networks, and attract resources that support the Center’s mission at AAU University.
The Council is composed of distinguished global figures from governments, international organizations, universities, and research centers with an interest in Latin America and the Caribbean. Its members are nominated by the Director of LAC-Center and formally meet twice a year, in May and September, with additional meetings as deemed necessary by the President and the Director.
Current Members:
Héctor Casanueva – Former Ambassador of Chile to Geneva and ALADI/MERCOSUR. Vice President of the Chilean Council for Foresight and Strategy, professor, and researcher at the Institute for Latin American Studies at the University of Alcalá (Spain).
Christian Ghymers – President of IRELAC, professor of International Economics at ICHEC-Brussels Management School, and Vice President of the Robert Triffin International Foundation. He has served as an advisor at the National Bank of Belgium, ECLAC, and the European Commission.
Prof. Dr. Mario Torres Jarrín – Director of the Institute for European Studies and Human Rights at the Pontifical University of Salamanca. An expert in European studies and international relations, he has been a member of the EU-LAC Academic Forum and has participated in G20/T20 working groups.
Mónica Velasco, Ph.D. – Director of the European Union–Latin America and the Caribbean Chair at EIIS (Salamanca and Stockholm). Specialist in international law and EU-LAC relations, with a focus on human rights and international politics.
This Council strengthens LAC-Center’s role as a key reference for academic cooperation between Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
